How to take off the seat part (to replace the seat core) of an Ekornes Stressless chair.
I did not see another video anywhere showing how to do this. There might be one out there, but I couldn’t find it… so I made one.
After “test watching” my work again, I realize that maybe the video was captured a little too close up. Usually close up is good, but if someone does not know about this chair and what is going they may not learn anything here…. BUT…
If a person has this type of chair and is really wanting/needing to do what I did here then I think they will understand exactly what is going on.
In other words… this is an “advanced course video”.
You probably need to pass Ekornes chair classes 101, 102 and 105 as prerequisites to this.
On first glance (to me anyway) this looked tricky and dangerous… I thought “who knows what kind of crazy spring or Norwegian widget might come flying out zinging across the room, lost forever never to be found again as I started taking it apart, but…
The truth is…
doing this is not all that hard, and there are no surprises.
You do need 2 special tools to do this.
They are not (very) common screw drivers (to me anyway).
You need… heck I don’t even know the proper names (I learned it is called TORX) or sizes of the tools, but they are shown in the video…. and I assume a full line hardware store would have them. I obtained mine as a gift from a friend (Thank you again friend)
UPDATE- from the comments John Wisdom said ” I would like to add that the TORX size needed to undo the screw that attaches the knobs is at T50.”
When you have the 2 tools the hardest part is waiting for replacement parts to come from the other side of the world (Norway) (so be ready to wait 6 months) (unless you live there)…
The other hard part is “cracking loose” the bolts. They may have used some type of Loctite threadlocker liquid to holds them tight, but if you use enough energy and leverage they will open (at least they did for me).
When you put it all back together you might also use some type of Loctite threadlocker to make sure the bolts never come loose.
This is a video I hope you never need…. I hope your chairs last good forever… but if they dont… here is a video about it
