This is our video entry for the Worst Kitchen in America contest hosted by DIY Network and the Food Network channel. I know we don’t have a gross or dangerous kitchen, but we have an ugly dysfunctional kitchen! We have remodeled almost every space of our house except the kitchen and it really sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s 1950′s yellow tile and wallpapered ceilings just don’t really cut it. And the fact that its about 10′ x 18′ with 9′ ceilings it has a surprisingly unusable counter space of about 2.5 feet. The cabinets are tiny considering the space they could be using and we have to store all of our pots and pans in the oven. Cooking utensils are jammed in the drawers making them hard to open and close, let alone find what you are looking for. There are holes and cracks in the floor, missing wall tiles, holes in the walls, a nice looking “Dead ladybug” storage in the plastic covering a hole in the ceiling, and the sink is a nice brown stain color. It’s just not a good place to be and it could be such a nice kitchen if done right. I would like to punch through the wall to the dining room and put a counter top with bar stools to make a nice done-through. This will open up the actual kitchen space and allow for an island to be installed. Then we can go to town with all new cabinets and counter tops, lighting, a delta touch faucet, and much more! If we don’t win the contest we will be looking forward to starting demo soon!
